Why email designers deserve to go out of business.

Not long ago, I discovered there are people called “email designers”.

These are people who design your emails, make it look cool, add your logo, colours, images, etc.

Essentially, they “pretty up” your email.

That’s all well and good, but imo, they deserve to go out of business.

Not because they are bad people (I don’t even know any of them personally), but because I am philosophically against the premise of their whole business.

I think highly-designed emails are the devil and they need to be banned.

In my opinion, there is ZERO advantage to having a well-designed email:

* It makes you more likely to land in promotions and spam.

* It doesn’t display well on various devices (for the most part).

* It becomes totally messed up if the reader chooses not to display images in their Gmail.

* It builds absolutely no relationship (which is the whole point of email marketing).

* It does a bad job of selling (when compared to well-written text-based emails).

* Designing an email takes far longer than writing good text-based emails (with no added benefit whatsoever).

Now, I am not saying your email must be black-and-white ugly.

You can mess with fonts, some colors, formatting, etc (if you like).

But the idea of designing every email with images, columns, logos, etc. to the point that it almost looks like a magazine is just ludicrous and quite frankly, a waste of time and money.

You are better off spending that time writing something that would build a relationship with your subscribers and make them more likely to do business with you.

If you need help with the writing part, then my agency, IKON Media, is currently taking on new email marketing clients.

We would handle the writing, scheduling, and managing of your emails, while you focus on other things you enjoy in your business.

Of course, such a service is not cheap. But you don’t want cheap, right?

You want results, and that’s what we produce.
