In business, everybody talks about customer research.
From surveys to focus groups, customer interviews, etc.
Every idea, product, offer must come from the customer.
That’s the popular narrative.
And I think it is correct, when you are running a business based on predictability.
If you have a model that has been proven over the years and you are not really trying to make any major changes, that is fine.
But once you have a business that is truly innovative.
Or maybe not even your whole business, but if you have an idea that is innovative…
Then you have to rely more on your gut feeling than customer research.
Many times, your customers don’t know what they want until you actually give it to them.
You have to trust yourself, be the visionary and LEAD your customers.
Stop reacting to the market.
Sure, this comes with a certain level of uncertainty.
But no real change is created from a place of 100% certainty.
If you want to build a business that lasts for several decades after you are gone, you need to think big.
And that almost always means being a visionary and betting on yourself.
More:
Almost nobody asked for any of the major inventions that we have today.
From light bulbs to electricity to cars and even the Apple computers.
They were all created (or discovered) by people who noticed something, had a gut feeling and trusted themselves enough to follow through on what they felt was right.
Of course, this is not for everyone.
But if you have an idea that most people don’t understand or agree with, but you really deeply believe it will work, then don’t be afraid to give it a shot.
In other news, if you run a health/wellness business and you are looking to get more clients, faster and more consistently, then I have a free book for you.
