The advantage of a hellish week

This month last year, I had to work on an impromptu project for an exhibition.

This was an engineering project that was meant to be exhibited at a conference, and I was only given about 9 days’ notice.

In short, it was a hellish week.

I didn’t have the luxury of time — it was a stressful, high-paced, high-pressure kind of situation.

The type where you’re only sleeping 3–4 hours per night and working for most of the day, trying to figure out how to design, manufacture, and program a robot that will be entertaining for the audience.

Definitely not an ideal situation, but it was extremely rewarding. And I can say I grew more in that week than I had in the 6 weeks prior.

Here’s why I bring this up:

Ben Settle once said there’s nothing better for a writer (or marketer) than having to write a lot of words in a very short timeframe.

And I agree.

Just like my engineering project helped me learn extremely fast, think of quick ways to solve problems, and become highly efficient…

Creating a marketing campaign on a very strict timeline will also help you hone your marketing, copywriting, or email marketing skills more than books, courses, or any kind of training can.

If you are looking to get better at writing copy or marketing in general, taking on a difficult project in a short timeline is the perfect way to get better quickly.

In fact, let me give you a challenge.

If you’re looking to grow your business or improve your marketing skills, here’s what you need to do:

#1 — Choose a project to work on. This can be anything at all from launching a new brand, writing a book, or creating and running ads.

#2 — Choose a timeline that you know will be 100% enough for you to finish that project.

#3 — Then divide the timeline by 4. That becomes your new timeline.

Work with that deadline and if you take it extremely seriously (I’m talking life-or-death type of seriously), you’ll find that you’ll become way more efficient, writer’s block disappears, and you will unlock a new problem-solving faculty you probably never had before.

It is really that powerful.

But you can only reap the rewards if you actually try it.

In other news, if you are ready to grow/scale your business and need help with email marketing, then let’s talk.

Over the call, I will assess your business, your marketing strategy, and look for weak spots and opportunities you can capitalize on.
