Yesterday, I had to do something I had never done before …
I had to shoot a short film for my engineering business. And oh boy, was I like a fish out of water.
For one, I grossly underestimated how long it would take.
I thought we’d be done in about 4 hours max. We spent 9 hours and could only go about halfway through the shoot.
Talk about spending your whole day shooting content.
Wheew!
Secondly, it doesn’t come cheap.
Equipment rentals … paying for location … getting food for the cast … hiring a producer … the cost adds up.
And all this for what?
A FREAKING FOUR MINUTES VIDEO!
To add salt to the wound, I am not a great actor.
I’m a writing guy, I rarely ever do videos (even though that is already changing), but I had to act out the whole script yesterday.
The last time I acted anything was in high school!
But I’m not complaining.
If all goes well, this expensive 4-minute video could launch my business into a different “realm”.
However, the experience made me fall in love with email all over again.
Instead of spending 9 hours on a shoot, I spend 9 minutes (literally) on an email.
Instead of spending thousands on a shoot, I spend nothing to write an email.
Instead of learning to act in front of a camera, I just write … rant … and blunder my way through emails.
And guess what?
My emails still make out like a bandit.
My point?
There is an easy and a hard way to do this business thing.
Email is an easy way.
But if you’re trying to figure it out on your own, it comes with frustration, wasted time and money.
But even worse, everyday you’re not making sales with email, your potential customers remain in pain, because you’re not solving their problem.
