Episode 3: How to Never Run Out of Email Ideas

Today, I will be talking about a common challenge: how to never run out of things to write about in your emails.

One of the biggest objections I hear when I recommend writing emails daily is, “I don’t know what to say!” Or, “I’ll run out of ideas!” If you’ve ever felt this way, this episode is for you. I’ll share practical tips, mindset shifts, and strategies to ensure you always have something fresh and engaging to write about.

Before we dive in, I’m excited to share that I have a book coming out soon called Infinite Mail. It’s a deep dive into generating endless email ideas, leveraging your daily life, and writing consistently. But for today, we’ll stick to an overview of some simple methods to help you get started right away.

First, let’s talk about mindset. How you think about email writing directly impacts how you approach it.

  1. Think of Emails as Conversations
Your emails aren’t essays or professional reports. They’re a casual chat with your audience, like gisting with a friend. Think about it: when you sit down with a friend, you never run out of things to say. Approach your emails with that same ease and conversational tone.
  2. Embrace Your Core Pillars
No matter your niche in health or wellness, there are foundational topics you’ll keep revisiting. For example, at Icon Media, we focus on two pillars: email marketing and website development. Under these, there are endless subtopics—subject lines, deliverability, website design, conversions, and more. Identify your core pillars, then break them into smaller themes for consistent email content.

Six Simple Ways to Generate Email Ideas

Here are six practical methods to ensure you never run out of email topics:

  1. Personal Stories Related to Your Expertise
Share your journey! Many health business owners started because of personal or family challenges. These stories showcase your expertise and create an emotional connection with your audience.
  2. Client Stories
Highlight real-life examples of clients you’ve helped. Share their challenges, successes, and transformations. Even if you don’t have formal testimonials, narrating these experiences can inspire and engage your audience.
  3. FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
Address common questions from your audience. If you’re just starting and don’t have customer questions yet, research online or use tools like Google to find trending questions in your niche.
  4. Tie-In to News
Use trending topics or news stories as email inspiration. Health scandals, new discoveries, or even broader cultural discussions can spark engaging content. The key is to relate the news back to your audience’s needs.
  5. Draw from History
Share interesting historical facts or shifts in your industry. For example, how surgical hygiene practices evolved or how weight loss standards have changed over time. Historical anecdotes are often fascinating and provide fresh insights for your readers.
  6. Your Daily Experiences
Document your day! Everyday moments, like dealing with a headache or overcoming a challenge, can be turned into relatable stories. The key is connecting these experiences to your offer or message.

Remember, writing emails doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s all about being conversational, consistent, and authentic. With these six strategies, you’ll always have fresh ideas to keep your emails engaging.
