If you don’t know what “shakommended” means, let me explain.
“Shakommended” is a Nigerian slang used to describe something that looks pretty but is not useful.
So when someone wears a pair of glasses that are not doctor-prescribed but look pretty, we call them “shakommended glasses”.
Here is why I bring up this term.
I think it describes accurately what I’ve seen some wellness business owners do in their email marketing …
And that is using heavily-designed emails.
I mean emails that have a background colour and graphics all around.
That is what I call “Shakommended Email Marketing”.
It looks pretty but is not very useful.
And here’s why:
#1 – It looks like a commercial email: None of your friends will ever send you a designed email. It screams “promotion” and you don’t want that with email.
#2 – It is more likely to be stuck in the promotions tab (or worse the spam tab): Heavily designed emails like that contain way more code than just regular-looking text making it easier to be detected as a promotional email.
#3 – It simply is not that effective: People are not buying your design. Especially in emails. They are buying your words, your personality, your stories.
All of these and more are why I believe designing your emails is not only pointless but can work against you.
You’re better off leaving it as plain text and spending all that time writing better emails instead of using it to design or look for templates.
Speaking of writing better emails, if you’d love to know how to improve your email marketing game or marketing game in general, then I invite you to book a free consultation call with me.
Over the call, we would dissect your business, discuss your goals and craft a “non-shakommended” marketing plan to help you achieve them.
