Comparison is the thief of sorrow

People say “comparison is the thief of joy”, but I’ve never quite agreed with that.

Like any tool, comparison can bring both good and bad, it just depends on how you wield it.

If you are a student of business, you would see that nothing good really happens without some sort of comparison. In fact, I dare say comparison can actually be the thief of sorrow.

Case in point:

Elon Musk.

Regardless of how you feel about the guy, you’ve got to admit that his companies are advancing the realms of our existing technologies.

However, when SpaceX was just getting off the ground, Elon faced his own fair share of problems.

The first 3 rockets they developed crashed and burned after spending several million dollars (and years) developing them.

Any normal person would have gotten demoralized or borderline depressed after such expensive failures, but do you know what kept his head in the game?

Comparison!

Specifically, he read a book called “The Right Stuff” that gave accounts of the early U.S. space programs and the failures they had to battle. And by comparing SpaceX’s failures to their failures, he realized they were not alone. Trying to innovate is hard and expensive failures are expected.

As you can see, comparison, when done right, brings you perspective.

Which brings me to you:

I don’t know where your business is right now…

On one hand, you might be balling out of control … but maybe on the other hand, you are struggling to make payroll and you’re wondering where your next client will come from …

All you need is a little comparison (a.k.a perspective).

Every business owner has had it hard at some point … and with each new level, comes a different devil.

So I just want you to know you’re not alone.

Take some time off – rest, renew and come back with fresh eyes.

Business is one of the most problematic jobs to have, but when it’s all said and done, you’d realize it’s also one of the most rewarding jobs to have.
