Avoid. Boring. People.

One of my favourite activities to do while I am taking a walk, or when I’m too tired to work … or maybe just waiting at a restaurant to get served … is listen to a podcast.

It has become one of my favourite things to do recently … on one hand because it gives you an opportunity to download useful information into your brain (anywhere, any time) instead of doom scrolling and butchering your attention span on social media.

But on the other hand, because I get to listen … and listen … and listen over and over again.

And you would be surprised at just how much you don’t hear on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd listen. Many times, the best ideas that can change the trajectory of your business or life come from the 5th or 6th listen of the same podcast (and this applies to books also).

Anyhoo, one of my favourite podcasts to listen to these days is “Founders” by David Senra.

He talks about past successful founders of many companies that have been in existence for several decades (Walmart, Sony, Estee Lauder, etc.) and he draws out lessons we can use in our own business.

While listening to the Sony episode this morning, David mentioned this phrase he heard from a friend:

Avoid boring people.

And if I could sum up high-converting, money-producing, relationship-building, email marketing, that would be it.

Simply stop boring people.

It is similar to what the movie director Frank Capra said:

“There are no rules in filmmaking. Only sins. And the cardinal sin is dullness.”

And I would say that is the cardinal sin of writing emails too — dullness.

Dullness is boring.

Dullness means nobody cares.

Dullness means you are not memorable.

This reminds me of a quote I once read in a book (paraphrased):

“If the people around you will not hear you, fall down before them and beg their forgiveness; for in truth, you are to blame for their not wanting to hear you.”

And that, my palsy, is the truth.

Which brings me to the point:

There is a way to write emails that makes people willing to hear … eager to read … and happy to buy.

If you need help writing such emails, then let’s have a chat. Over the call, we will review your goals and what you’re trying to achieve. Then we will review your approach to reaching that goal, and if I believe we can work together to get even better results than you can get on your own, I will let you know on the call.
